CHRISTMAS comes to Lymm on Saturday when the traditional Dickensian festival takes centre stage.

Dickensian Day will feature events across the village with the parade being the highlight from 1.30pm.

Organisers are promising it will offer something different this year with a traction engine, vintage cars, bands, schools and entertainers.

It will be led by town crier, Peter Powell.

Spectators will also be able to enjoy the spectacle of Lymm’s Santa dash.

Lymm Runners organise the event which sees hundreds of fun runners follow a section of the parade through The Cross before embarking on a 5km route through Lymm.

And other visitors to the village can browse a selection of stalls between 11am and 5pm.

Plenty of stalls have already been booked for the day, representing many societies, charities and businesses.

Stalls will be located in the village centre, Village Hall, Maple Lodge and youth club.

There will be an exhibition of paintings and hand-painted cards by local artists in the Village Hall.

And there is a chance to find out more about the growing heritage centre.

The building should be finished in January but volunteers have been offered upstairs in community centre to help us display some of their collections on the day between 10am and 6pm.

You can meet the volunteers and enjoy some refreshments.

The day is set to conclude with an illuminated flotilla of boats along the Bridgewater Canal in the centre of the village.

Organised by Lymm Cruising Club, the Illuminated Flotilla will see a series of canal boats lit up passing by the village from 4.45pm.

Although this event is subject to the weather conditions.

Aspiring photographers inspired by the day could win a year’s membership to the village’s popular photographic society.

The club has launched a competition.

Judges will be looking for a photo that is visually appealing, original and self-explanatory and all entries should be emailed as jpegs to wynford.evans@talktalk.net.

The deadline is December 18 with the winner announced on January 1. For more visit lymmphotosoc.org.uk.
