AN ON-CALL firefighter has spoken of his shock after two cars were stolen from his drive in Thelwall.

Paul Thomas, 26, was on call at the time of the burglary, which is believed to have taken place at about 2am on Sunday from his home on Moore Avenue.

The electrician, who works during the evening for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “It was a horrible way to wake up in the morning.

“It was my mum who first noticed it as she asked me where the cars were.

“I still can’t believe it as I did not hear a thing.

“The lucky thing is that I was not called up to go out on a job.

“No-one lives near me from the station so it’s not like I could have got a lift.

“You don’t want to think about what could have happened if I had been called out and couldn’t get there.”

Police believe the culprits were able to hook the keys of the red Mercedes A-class AMG 180 and the red Seat Ibiza FR through the letterbox of the property.

Paul added: “I have always left my keys on the side because if I get called out I have five minutes to get there, so they need to be easily at hand.”

Anyone with information should call Cheshire police on 101.
