THE OLD Market Place branch of the Post Office has shut its doors for the final time.
Warrington's town centre post office closed for the last time at 5.30pm last night, opening in its new location at WH Smiths in Golden Square Shopping Centre this morning.
Plans to move the post office from where it had stood for decades were revealed in March.
Despite objections from residents and Warrington Borough Council, who held talks with the Post Office in order to save the branch, the post office's 250m relocation was confirmed in August.
The new site in the rear of WH Smiths features seven counters and four self-service kiosks.
A decision on whether to approve planning permission for the old branch to be turned into a restaurant has been deferred pending further information.
