A CHARITY is facing court costs of at least £1,250 after unlawful travellers failed to vacate its Woolston site.

Last Wednesday, an encampment arrived at Age UK's donation centre, on Hardwick Grange, with six caravans and associated vehicles currently on the car park.

The organisation has prepared court proceedings – but at a substantial cost.

Staff at the charity, which supports older people across the country, have contacted the police and liaison officers but said they have been told 'unless the travellers cause damage or become threatening' they will have to go through court proceedings.

It now faces a legal bill of at least £1,250 as it attempts to remove the group.

Retail operations manager Terry Mutton said the encampment is starting to 'impact' on the charities work – both operationally and financially – and encouraged residents to continue donating.

He added: "We need the support of the community to ensure our work in helping elderly people is not affected."
