IT was a labour of love for Steve Zocek, of Milnthorpe Road, Burtonwood, when he put pen to paper to write a book on his sporting heroes.

The 55-year-old warehouse operative first started writing online editorials for Everton football fan websites before turning his work into For the boys in the Royal Blue Jersey.

The dad-of-two, who has been a fan of the club since the 60s, will be donating profits to the Everton Former Players Foundation.

He said: Because I have self-published the book, it has taken me three years to get to this stage.

“It’s my first time and it has been a great experience.

“I decided to write the book as I was initially writing the articles for a fan website.

“This was until a former player questioned me as to why I didn't put it in a book.

“So after some research I thought, why not?

“I have been a fan of Everton since my first game on October 19, 1968, which was a home victory against Stoke City with Colin Harvey and John Hurst scoring the goals that day.”

There are more than 50 interviews included in the book.
