A MAN has been jailed for three years for robbing a 16-year-old and a woman in the street while he was high on drugs.

Jamie Delooze has been sentenced to a total of three years imprisonment after attempting to rob his victims in two separate incidents in Orford earlier this year.

Delooze, 28, told the pair that he had a knife as he stole their bank cards, mobile phones and handbags – with the incidents leading to one of his victims losing their job.

Warrington Crown Court heard on Tuesday September 27 that Delooze took the bank card of a 16-year-old boy after attacking him in an alleyway on Thursday June 30.

The teenager was walking along Battersby Lane at 4.30pm when he turned into an alleyway and spotted the defendant, of Northway, Longford, cycling towards him.

Delooze asked the teen if he had any money or marijuana and then grabbed him by his hoodie and said he had a knife.

His young victim was described as ‘frozen in fear’ and thought he was going to be stabbed as Delooze rifled through his pockets.

The defendant removed the victim’s cash card and demanded the pin number, which the teen refused to give him.

Delooze eventually returned the cash card voluntarily and pleaded with his victim not to call the police as the teen fled to a nearby gym.

Then on Tuesday July 12, a 42-year-old woman was walking down an alleyway at the rear of Forshaw Street when the defendant approached her from behind.

The woman felt her handbag being grabbed but refused to let go and the ensuing struggle caused the defendant to fall off his bike, although he managed to steal her mobile phone.

Delooze threatened to kill the woman but she managed to recover her phone and take a photo of the defendant, who was stuck under his bike, with it.

The defendant told the woman he had a knife and was joined by his mum and aunt, who became verbally abusive to the victim and attacked her using a crutch.

In a victim personal statement, the woman described experiencing stress, anxiety and sleeping problems and added that the attack had led to her losing her job as a pharmaceutical technician.

Delooze, who has eight previous convictions including battery, affray, possessing a bladed article and handling stolen goods, was arrested the day after the second attack.

The court heard that Delooze has spina bifida and has difficulty walking but is ‘very mobile’ on his specially-adapted bike.

He had also fallen back into taking drugs after his relationship ended shortly before the offences took place.

Delooze was high on diazepam and sleeping tablets during the robberies and has no recollection of the first incident, while he only has ‘blurry’ memories of the second.

Her honour judge Tina Landale sentenced him to three years in prison on Tuesday after he admitted two counts of robbery.

He will serve half of his sentence before being released on licence and was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge.
