AS the drama of The X Factor unravelled on Sunday night, Girl Next Door were at the centre of the chaos.

Katie Hammond and her fellow girl band members endured a rollercoaster of emotions as they anxiously waited to find out their fate on the ITV talent show.

The 17-year-old singer battled it out on the dreaded six chair challenge alongside fellow band members Britani Humphries, 17, from Widnes, Saskia Rosimus, 19, from Bolton and Annabelle Pike, 17, from Preston.

She said: "We were planning to sing one song from list we were given but about three hours before we decided to change it as we wanted to make sure we did the best we could.

"That was a panic in itself.

"It was an exhausting day waiting to go on stage because of the nerves.

"We were waiting and all of the acts were amazing especially the other girl groups which knocked our confidence."

But when Girl Next Door finally got on stage to show veteran judge Louis Walsh why he should pick them, the group gave it their all while performing One Direction’s Drag Me Down.

The former Bridgewater High and Broomfields Junior School pupil said: "We thought we nailed it and you could hear the audience chanting our name.

"When it was shown on TV there was something not quite right – we were not happy with how it sounded."

When Louis delivered the devastating blow the girls' heart sank and they were consoled by their loved ones back stage.

But it soon appeared that their luck might be changing after they were called back on stage.

"Louis said he had made a mistake and he should listen to the fifth judge – the public," she said.

"It was a horrible feeling to take another band's seat but it also felt like it was too good to be true and it turns out I was right."

Shortly after being giving a seat which would see the band go through to the judges' houses, Girl Next Door were replaced by another act.

But while their X Factor journey is over, it certainly does not spell the end for the band.

She added: "Some people said we might be too young and they might be right.

“It is a TV programme and we are not going to give up.

"It's only going to get bigger and better as we have improved so much in the past year.”
