MEET the friends whose zombie makeover was so realistic the police were deployed to investigate.

Steve Lowe and Diane Holden were on their way back from filming the web series Dead Town when they were pulled over by motorway police.

Officers made the unexpected discovery after they were called to the M62 following reports of a woman being bitten by a man in a car.

Police received the panic 999 call at around 6pm on Sunday near to junction 11 at Birchwood.

Traffic officers descended on the scene but it would appear there was mortal this than meets the eye.

Writer and director Pete Mckeirnon, who is the creator of Dead Town, said: "When we are filming I let the police know just in case they receive any panicked phone calls.

"We were filming the final episode on Sunday and were running late.

"So once it finished Diane and Steven had to quickly leave so jumped in their car.

"They did not have time to take anything off."

After requesting that the driver of the vehicle pull over, it quickly became clear that there was no need to fear a zombie apocalypse.

The two friends, who regularly play extras in zombie films and TV series, were on their way back from filming the horror series in Widnes.

Luckily Diane, who is teaching assistant, and Steve, who is now retired, saw the funny side and posed for a picture for officers.

Pete from Runcorn added: "There is a big zombie community out there which many people don't even know about.

"A lot of people I don't recognise without their make-up on."

A Greater Manchester spokesman said: “We got a call to reports of a man biting a woman on the M62 at junction 11 and was being assaulted.

“Officers were sent out to search for the vehicle as it is a serious incident. But when they found the car in question, the saw they were covered in fake blood.

“Thankfully the man and woman were extras on their way to a job and it was a funny ending really.”
