AN APPLICATION to build a warehouse on the site of a business centre that burned down in 2014 has been approved.

The site of the Haydock Street Business Centre in the town centre has been vacant since it was gutted by fire two years ago.

Now plans submitted to bring the land back in to use have been approved.

Foden Estates Ltd’s proposal to build and industrial unit or warehouse on the 360sq m site has been given the go-ahead by Warrington Borough Council’s planning department.

The development, which is likely to be used by a computer refurbishment company, will create four full-time jobs and open between 8am-6pm from Monday to Saturday.

Haydock Street Business Centre was flattened in late 2014 after significant fire damage was cause in what was believed to be a deliberate blaze.

Six fire engines attended the scene shortly after 4am on October 4 2014 with the two-storey building ‘well alight’ with flames measuring 10mx100m.

Firefighters spent 12 hours in total at the scene as they battled the blaze, which police believed was started deliberately as entry to the property had been gained by force.

Earlier this year a neighbouring property was also subject to a fire that saw a building flattened.

James Swanson was jailed for 17 months in August having set fire to a duvet in the disused building on Haydock Street on February 21 in order to keep warm.

The 38-year-old, of Bolton, attempted to put the fire out with beer when the flames got out of control but the building was gutted by the fire.
