LOVED ones of Viola Beach guitarist River Reeves have set off on a gruelling charity cycle from Cornwall to Warrington in his memory.

The team hit the roads on Monday and will be cycling around 75 miles a day to raise funds for a foundation set up following his tragic death on February 13.

River died alongside his band mates Kris Leonard, 20, Tomas Lowe, 27 and Jack Dakin, 19 and their manager Craig Tarry, 32, following a crash in Sweden.

The band were coming home from their first international gig.

A team of 11 will cycle from Penzance where River lived with his mum Miranda Reeve to the phone boxes on Bridge Street in the town centre in a bid to keep his legacy alive.

So far more than £10,000 has been raised for the foundation which has been set up by the family to help aspiring artists overcome some of the financial challenges that can prevent them from achieving their dreams.

There will also be a donation made by the foundation to The Viola Beach and Craig Tarry Memorial Fund.

The cycle challenge is expected to take five and a half day with the team arriving on Bridge Street between 2pm and 3pm on Saturday.

As the team approach Warrington they have planned several stops closer to the final destination, including Priestley College, where River studied performing arts.

Those supporting the team are encouraged to wear colourful clothing and line the streets as they make their way to the final destination.
