THE MOST common causes of noise complaints made by Warrington residents have been revealed.

In 2015 a total of 924 noise complaints were made to Warrington Borough Council, with the most common reason for irritation being barking dogs.

Loud music and noisy neighbours were the next most popular reason for complaints.

Approximately four-and-a-half noise complaints were made for every 1,000 residents in the town, comparing well with the north west’s worst offenders.

St Helens and Barrow-in-Furness were the noisiest areas in the region, with nine and 12-and-a-half complaints per 1,000 residents.

Elsewhere in the north west, Liverpool, Preston and Fylde had high levels of complaints while Wyre was the quietest place to live in the region with one-and-a-half complaints for every 1,000 people.

Thomas Shelton, market manager at Cirrus Research who surveyed authorities across the region, said: “With noise nuisance people are now much more aware of their rights and more likely complain than grin and bear it.

“Elderly people are also more likely to complain as they spend more time indoors and with more homes now having wooden or laminate floors and wall-mounted TVs we are seeing more domestic complaints as there is less to insulate the noise within the home.”
