POLICE have been called out six times in just nine days to reports of buses getting stuck on a road in Thelwall after the route was changed on September 5.

The number six now passes down All Saints Drive but residents are furious after claiming the road is not big enough for single and double decker buses.

Police have been called out after multiple reports that cars parked on the residential street stopped buses from getting through.

Residents are furious with the change of route and said they had received no warning about plans to send two buses an hour down their road.

Neighbour Linda Crossley said: “It’s absolutely ridiculous.

“The police have made us move our van for the bus to get through. We think the route has been changed to cut petrol use down.

“The first one comes down the road at 6.20am and we had no notification about the change. The road is only 4.95 metres wide and there is a 45 degree bend.”

There is also a popular church and a primary school at the end of All Saints Drive, which at certain times of day cause added congestion.

Resident Les Pratt said he is concerned for the safety of schoolchildren following an incident at around 8.35am on Wednesday.

Police were once again called to the scene where a bus driver was unable to travel down the road due to parked vehicles and Les said children were trying to get to school.

Managing Director of Network Warrington, Damian Graham, said: “The number six bus route was diverted to remove a long section of the route which generated very few passengers while retaining as many as possible of the current bus stops.

“A risk assessment has been undertaken and it is believed that no significant danger is caused to other road users by operating along All Saints Drive.

“I am aware that on occasion there will be weddings and funerals at the church but our drivers have to deal with similar situations at many other locations in Warrington.

“I am also aware that the police have attended the area on several occasions recently.  However, we will continue to monitor the situation.”

A police spokesman said: "Some residents are unhappy that the bus route has been moved down All Saints Drive.

“Some have parked their vehicles in such a way that means that the buses can’t get through.

"We have attended on several occasions and resolved the matter at that time.

"We are working with the bus company and the residents to try and come up with a long-term solution."
