DRUG dealing, weapon possession and assault are among the arrests made at Creamfields this weekend with 137 detained.

Cheshire Police have confirmed that officers made a number of arrests including some for wanted suspects who were traced at the annual dance festival.

One of the arrests was made by the force's chief constable Simon Byrne, who arrested a man on suspicion of drugs offences while patrolling the site.

A total of 287 crimes were reported to officers on site or via the 101 number including thefts, assault and drugs offences.

Police say all crimes reported will be investigated in the coming weeks.

Inspector Stewart Sheer, who led the planning of the policing operation at Creamfields, praised the work of officers.

He added: "Creamfields is our biggest event of the year, which comes at a time when many would want to spend time with family.

"It is great credit to those who embrace the spirit of the event while carrying out an important job.”

Police and crime commissioner for Cheshire David Keane thanked members of the public 'for their co-operation and understanding prior to and throughout the event'.

He added: "As a result of careful planning and the commitment shown by officers we have been able to keep disruption caused by the event to a minimum."

The policing operation started on Thursday, August 25, with the majority of festival goers heading to the site on Friday and Saturday morning.

On Friday, police were called to one of the campsites following concerns for a 26-year-old man from Cornwall.

The reveller later died and he has since been named locally as married dad Joe Sheppard.

Cheshire Police confirmed the news on Saturday – shortly after officers were called to one of the campsites following concerns for a man.

A constabulary spokesman said: "On Friday, August 26, we were notified following concerns for a man in one of the campsites and, sadly, a 26-year-old man from the Cornwall area passed away.

"Formal ID is to take place and we are awaiting the results of the post mortem examination to establish the cause of death.

"Our thoughts are with his family at this time."

Around 70,000 music fans were expected to descend on the Daresbury site over the bank holiday weekend with acts including Calvin Harris, Tiestö, Avicii and Axwell & Ingrosso on the line-up.
