POLICE are investigating a hit and run in Dallam after a car mounted the pavement and knocked down a 39-year-old man this morning.

Officers were alerted to the crash involving a Ford Fiesta at 8.40am today, Tuesday, on Longshaw Street near to Dagnall Avenue.

Emergency services were called to the scene with paramedics treating the victim at the roadside.

Police say the 39-year-old was walking along the pavement when he was hit by the car.

It has been reported that the vehicle deliberately mounted the pavement and struck the man, causing serious injuries to his leg.

The vehicle then completed a three-point turn and drove off in the direction of Hawleys Lane.

The victim was taken to Aintree Hospital for treatment where his condition is described as serious.

Officers are now trying to trace the driver of a Ford Fiesta who fled from the scene.

Investigating officer detective constable Jason Heath said: "This was an extremely serious incident and we are keen to trace the person responsible so that they can be brought to justice.

"The investigation is currently in its early stages and we are currently following a number of lines of enquiry.

"As part of my investigation I'm keen to speak to anyone who was in the Longshaw Street area around the time of the incident and believes they could have any information that could help the investigation."
