A FOOTBALL tournament is set to kick of in memory of youngster Ciaran Geddes, who died after suffering a cardiac arrest while playing football in Birchwood.

Ciaran was aged just seven when died after playing the game he loved at Locking Stumps Community Primary School in April 2012.

In the wake of his death, Ciaran’s family set up a charity in order to install defibrillators at schools and football clubs.

Since then, Ciaran’s Cause has gone on to provide £100,000 worth of defibrillators and trained more than 2,500 people on emergency procedures in Warrington.

Winwick Bears – the team Ciaran would regularly play for – will be hosting the event at Winwick Leisure Centre on Myddleton Lane on September 4.

There will six teams involved in the charity match including Winwick Bears, Winwick Hyenas, Winwick Dragons, Bruche Athletic, Skelmersdale United and Woolston Bilbao.

His former coach Niall Ross said he hoped the tournament would keep Ciaran's memory alive.

He added: "If we are successful this year, I will continue to grow the tournament year on year. All the proceeds from the tournament are given to the charity."
