AN air ambulance was deployed to Birchwood yesterday, Wednesday, after a 21-year-old man was knocked down in a hit and run.

Police were called to Redshank Lane at 4pm after the victim was knocked down by a blue Vauxhall Vectra.

The vehicle mounted the pavement and pinned the victim against a wall.

Police say the driver then reversed and drove off at speed in the direction of Admirals Road.

The victim from Warrington sustained serious injuries to his leg and was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital by air ambulance.

His condition is currently described as stable.

The driver of the vehicle is described as a man of stocky build with shaved blonde hair.

Investigating officer DC Darren Burns said: “This was an extremely serious incident and I have no doubt the offender drove into the victim with the intent to cause severe injury.

“As a result of this incident the victim will require several operations and I am keen to trace the person responsible so that they can be brought to justice.”
