PARTS of Knutsford Road will be closed overnight for seven weeks for resurfacing, starting next month.

The council will begin work on the road between Black Bear Bridge and Bridge Foot traffic lights from September 19 on the westbound carriageway only.

Most of the road closures will take place between 7pm and midnight but some minimal works are scheduled to take place during the day.

Cllr Hans Mundry, executive board member for highways, has reassured residents and businesses that the short term disruption is worth it.

He said: “I’m really pleased this much needed work, on an important Warrington route, will soon be getting under way.

“It will bring huge environmental and visual benefits to local businesses and the wider community for years to come.

“We always consider the needs of residents and business when carrying out roadworks and we know that large scale resurfacing works such as these can cause some disruption.

“We will be working very hard to minimise this as much as possible.

“We are also assisting local businesses by providing advanced notice and signage to coordinate deliveries.

“I’d like to assure businesses, residents and motorists that the short term pain will be worth it, when these vital improvements are completed.”

The road will be closed to traffic heading into Warrington from Monday to Friday and alternate weekends but eastbound traffic will not be affected.

Minor work including ironwork repairs will take place between 9.30 and 3.30pm, Monday to Friday, with the road open in both directions.
