TOUCHING tributes have been paid to a special constable who died suddenly at his home in Culcheth.

The mum of Ryan O’Hara - who died on Thursday, July 21 - spoke of the devastation following her son's death.

She said: "Ryan’s death has left a huge hole in our lives that can never be filled.

"It has been a comfort to us over the past few days to hear of messages from his work colleagues and friends. I would like to thank everyone who has been in touch.

“Ryan was so proud to have served as a member of the Special Constabulary.

"He worked so hard to get to this stage of his life and it was his ultimate dream to become a regular police officer one day.

"We would talk daily about his role and the challenges he would face and we would often sit up at night talking about his day and going through his training.”

Ryan had been studying on the BSc community policing and criminal investigation course at the Warrington campus of the University of Chester.

He had been a special based in the town since 2014.

Chief officer of the Special Constabulary Celvyn Jones added: “I was shocked and saddened to hear of Ryan's sudden death late last week.

"Our thoughts and condolences are very much with his family and friends at this extremely difficult time.

"I have met with Ryan’s parents and have seen first hand the love and pride they had for him.

"It is clear that he will be very much missed by all those who were lucky enough to know him.”

Ryan’s funeral will be held at 11.30am on August 5 at St Lewis Roman Catholic Church on Mustard Lane in Croft.

The church service will be followed by interment in the grounds of the church.

Mourners are welcome to attend the Cherry Tree Pub on Common Lane in Culcheth after the service.

Floral tributes are welcome or donations can be made to a charity to be nominated by Ryan’s family.
