A CROFT schoolgirl has braved the chop after not cutting her hair for more than a year.

Locking Stumps Primary School pupil Anna Toynton was inspired to donate her locks to the Little Princess Trust after seeing a young girl suffering from cancer.

The 10-year-old said: "I didn't want to have my hair cut but I knew it had to be done.

"I asked mummy what happens to my hair after a good cut and she said it goes in the bin.

“I thought that was sad since my hair is so long and thick.

"I remembered going to a restaurant with my mum and dad and seeing a little girl wearing a wig.

"When I asked my mum why she did she explained it was possibly due to the fact the girl has cancer.

"When I thought of my hair in the bin, I remembered that girl and how pretty and happy she looked.

“I thought my hair could help another little girl feel like that."

Anna's proud mum Colette said she was overwhelmed by her daughter's kindness and determination to help strangers – despite battling with type 1 diabetes each day.

She said: "She has four daily injections to keep herself going and never once complains about it.

"But here she is thinking of others and their happiness and not ever complaining about her own illness."

So far Anna has raised more than £400 with hopes of smashing her target of £1,000.

Evolution Recruitment and Birchwood Community High School have also helped Anna in her fundraising efforts by giving generous donations and hosting charity events.
