EVER wondered what goes on the behind the scenes of the charitable trust which delivers arts, heritage and events across Warrington? Formed in May 2012, Culture Warrington operates Warrington Museum and Art Gallery and Pyramid and Parr Hall as well as organising events across the town. As part of our Humans of Warrington feature we have been given access to those who bring these ideas to life.

Name: Derek Dick

Age: 52

Job title: Outreach and engagement manager

"I was an artist working in wood carvings before I taught at a school for two years.

“I worked at Manchester Metropolitan for seven years teaching contemporary crafts and visual arts before moving into museums and exhibitions.

“I have worked in Warrington for nine years in various roles.

“The best part of the job is the variety.

“I have worked with young carers helping them to express their views and share their stories.

“Sometimes they feel frustrated as they have to act as a responsible adult by looking after younger siblings.

“They use pieces in the museum to help them tell their story.

“The museum is so much more than just a building filled with possession.

“We can use the collections as a talking point to help people express themselves.”
