CHANGES will be made to Network Warrington's bus services from September 5.

Council members are due to attend an information briefing at the Town Hall tomorrow, Thursday, to update them on the situation.

In an e-mail seen by the Warrington Guardian, Network Warrington chairman Maureen Banner provided those contacted with the plan for the evening.

It said: "I would like to invite you to a members' information briefing at the Town Hall on July 28.

"The meeting has been arranged to provide you with an update on the changes being made to bus services operated by Network Warrington, which will commence on September 5.

"There will be a short presentation about the reasons for the changes and how we must ensure that the company remains sustainable for the foreseeable future.

"Following the briefing, there will be an opportunity for members to ask any questions. I hope you can attend the briefing and I look forward to meeting you."

The Warrington Guardian has made attempts to contact the operator in order for it to explain the extent of the changes and whether residents will be consulted ahead of the move but it is yet to receive a response.

The organisation was also questioned over the possibility of privatisation.

The council said it would not be commenting on the matter.

However, a spokesman confirmed it has 'no plans to sell its shareholding in Network Warrington'.

It is feared that the September changes could result in further service cuts amid ongoing financial difficulties.

Warrington South MP David Mowat has been contacted over the operator's services by residents.

He said: "A number of my constituents have been in touch recently to highlight their concerns over the bus network.

"Their focus is mainly on the connectivity of the system and concerns over having to wait too long at a connecting bus stop.

"I have written to Network Warrington about these issues recently and look forward to hearing the outcome of the meeting.

"I have no particular view as to who owns the bus company. Although it is important we do not miss out on any economies of scale."
