A GROUP of parents who hope to improve support for families of young people using nearby mental health services are looking for more people to get involved.
The parent and carer involvement group, which has been meeting every month since January, has already created an educational video and leaflet to raise awareness of child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) as part of the work of Warrington by 5 Boroughs Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.
Vicky Jolly, operational manager for 5 Boroughs Partnership in Halton, said: “The need for the video and leaflet was identified when the group reflected on their own experiences after their children were first referred to CAMHS, and the flurry of emotions that the referral triggered.
“Joining CAMHS can often feel a bit daunting for parents and this can feel even more overwhelming if they don’t know what to expect.
"The group wanted to give other parents in a similar situation an honest insight into what being involved with CAMHS means for the whole family, not just for the young person.”
