A WARNING has been issued after two cats who lived just a few doors away from each other were poisoned and died.

Neighbouring cats Daisy and Oscar had to be put to sleep after suffering kidney failure due to toxic poisoning.

Their owners believe the beloved pets, who lives four doors away from each other in Orford, may have been poisoned with anti-freeze or screen wash.

Derek Avenue resident Helen Campbell owned four-year-old Daisy, who died last week.

She said: “I just want to warn people to keep any eye on their pets – I don’t know if this was deliberate or not but I want to make people aware of this.

“I took Daisy to the vets and all her tongue, the back of her mouth and the inside of her mouth were all burnt.

“She didn’t pick up and went downhill so it was the kindest thing to do to put her to sleep.”

Jane O’ Neill lives four doors away from Helen on the corner of Martin Avenue – her nine-year-old cat Oscar also died recently due to toxic poisoning.

Another cat, four-year-old Dolly, has also gone missing in the area.

She said: “He was a bit quiet and off his food and 48 hours later his kidneys had failed and there was no hope for him – the deterioration was rapid.

“The vet told Helen to inform the police which we have done.

“I don’t know if it was deliberate and would hate to think that it was but other local cat owners need to be aware of this – this is absolutely heart-breaking.

“Oscar was my daughter’s baby – they were both very much loved family pets.

“The police have asked us to look out for anything suspicious and warn other cat owners in the area to be aware.”
