CHRIS Evans has announced that he has quit Top Gear after just one series presenting the show.
The former Padgate High School student has announced his resignation from the BBC motor show after ratings plummeted amidst a rumoured fallout with co-host Matt Le Blanc.
Evans, 50, tweeted: "Gave it my best shot but sometimes that's not enough.
"The team are beyond brilliant, I wish them all the best."
Last night's series finale of Top Gear attracted an audience of just 1.9m - Evans said in May that he would be 'disappointed' if it gained less than 5m viewers.
Stepping down from Top Gear. Gave it my best shot but sometimes that's not enough. The team are beyond brilliant, I wish them all the best.
