MORE than 1,500 pupils brought Rio to Warrington for a sports day with a difference.
They descended on Orford Park which each school adopting a country set to compete in this summer's Olympic Games and coming dressed in their colours for an opening parade.
Throughout the day, organised by the Warrington School Sports Partnership, they tried a range of sports from golf to football and cycling to lacrosse.
Penny Moorfield, PE and school sport manager, said: "All schools taking part were involved in the medal ceremonies before the closing ceremony on the stage.
"Schools left having had a fun-filled, action packed day with great feedback from schools and staff hoping that we can do the same event next year – Road to the Gold coast.
"In this time of health and well being being high on the agenda it was lovely to see so many smiling faces enjoying being active."
Winners included Oughtrington at cycling, Little Bollington at lacrosse, St Peter's in Woolston in Athletics, St Vincent's in Penketh at football, Christ Church in Padgate at orienteering, Stockton Heath at golf and Westbrook Old Hall in tennis.
