LABOUR'S Warrington South branch has confirmed it is 'fully behind the leadership' of the party.

Leader Jeremy Corbyn has faced calls to resign and a leadership challenge is set to be announced after a motion of no confidence in him was backed by 172 MPs yesterday, Tuesday.

And Nick Bent was among 57 of the party's former parliamentary candidates calling on Mr Corbyn to resign after signing an open letter indicating Labour would currently 'fail' in a general election.

But chairman of Labour's Warrington South constituency, Cllr Steve Wright, said it is up to members to decide what happens next.

He added: "We are fully behind the leadership of our party and are committed to having a Labour MP for Warrington South and a Labour Government.

"We will be campaigning hard for a Labour Government and we are all together in this goal. We fully support the democratic processes of our party.

"We would not suggest that the way it has been done so far has been the best way.

"However, at a time when the country is lacking a credible Government it should be upon us as the Labour Party to make sure we are in a position to challenge."

On Sunday, Warrington North MP Helen Jones tweeted to say she was 'sorry' to see MP Hilary Benn sacked from the shadow cabinet, which followed with the resignation of more than 50 frontbenchers.
