MOTORISTS faced lengthy delays after a Warburtons lorry smashed through the central reservation on the M6 at Woolston yesterday, Sunday.

The collision, which involved the lorry and a car towing a caravan, took place shortly after 10am on the northbound carriageway.

The Warburtons vehicle remained upright despite skidding across four lanes before flattening the central reservation.

The northbound carriageway was completely blocked and emergency services attended the scene.

North West Ambulance Service, which received a call at 10.11am, was set to send an air ambulance but confirmed it was only required to dispatch a rapid response vehicle and ambulance.

A spokesman confirmed no patients were taken to hospital.

No motorists sustained serious injuries but the driver of the car was 'shook up'.

All lanes reopened just after 3pm following recovery work.

The incident comes after the M6 at Thelwall Viaduct was closed between junctions 21 and 20 southbound after a Warburtons lorry caught fire at the start of last month.
