WARRINGTON Wolves winger Gene Ormsby has been ordered to serve community service after his pack of dogs ‘ripped apart’ a man’s pets and left him needing hospital treatment.

The 23-year-old had been walking his five dogs in Stalybridge in February without leads when they set upon another dog walker and his two pets.

Academy product Ormsby, of Dukinfield, had driven to the area to walk his two Staffordshire bull terriers and three lurchers at around 5pm on Wednesday February 24.

His Staffordshire bull terrier Cassie started the attack, gripping hold of one of the man’s dogs as the other joined in.

Warrington Guardian:

Tameside Magistrates Court was told by John Richards prosecuting that Ormsby’s pack were ‘extremely vicious’ and ‘effectively ripped the dogs apart’.

The attack only stopped when Ormsby ran off so that his dogs would follow him – the man’s two pets were rushed to the vets for emergency treatment.

Putting them down was considered a possibility but they did later recover.

Their owner also required hospital treatment, sustaining bite marks on his chest and hand when attempting to stop the attack.

Warrington Guardian:

Ormsby admitted five charges of having a dog dangerously out of control and one of a dog causing injury while dangerously out of control.

He faced the prospect of all of his dogs being destroyed, but was allowed to have them back as long as he followed strict conditions, including having them muzzled when outside his home.

In addition, Ormsby will serve 150 hours unpaid work and pay more than £10,000 in compensation, kennel fees and court costs.
