A KIND-hearted student organised a three course meal to raise more than £1,500 for her five-year-old cousin, who suffers from cerebral palsy.

Rebecca Thornley, 19, is a student at Warrington Collegiate and arranged the fundraiser at the college’s restaurant.

The event was attended by Warrington Wolves star Chris Hill and the money raised will go towards a hydrotherapy pool for Rebecca’s cousin, Leon Hoey.

When Leon was born, his mum, Annmarie Dougan, was told that he might not survive.

But five years later Leon is always smiling and has grown up to be a huge Warrington Wolves fan, just like his mum.

The sell-out event took place at Buckley’s restaurant in aid of the Twinkle Toes Foundation, a charity which helps children with cerebral palsy like Leon.

Prop Chris Hill, who is the charity’s patron, opened the event before posing for photographs with Leon and his family.

He also donated a pair of tickets to Friday night’s game against Catalan Dragons, which were auctioned off on the night along with a signed Wolves shirt and two hampers.

Rebecca said: “We need to raise £4,000 for the hydrotherapy pool so that Leon can sit in it so that the pain will be eased.

"He is in a lot of pain but you wouldn’t see that from his face – he’s so happy all the time.”

She was delighted to have raised £900 from ticket sales and a further £600 on the night of the event.
