NORTHWICH residents were given an update on the Barons Quay development as it nears completion.

More than 100 people attended the Rotary Club of Northwich’s latest speakers meeting at Winnington Park Recreation Club on Monday, June 6.

Mike Burrow, senior engineer for Balfour BT – the company in charge of constructing the site – and Catherine Fox, Northwich programme manager for the Mid Cheshire Development Board, both spoke about the project at the meeting.

John Walton, president of the Rotary Club of Northwich, said guests were told Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC) were aiming to start handing keys to retailers by the end of this year.

He said: “From what the demonstrated from Monday, everything looks quite positive and Cheshire West and Chester Council seem to be listening to what people are requesting.”

Rotary Club member, Clive Steggel, who organises the club’s regular speakers meeting, said Mrs Fox hinted that news about further retailers was inbound, but remained tight-lipped during a Q and A session.

He said: “A lot of people on the floor requested knowledge about what was going to be in the shops, but they couldn’t reveal that until all the documents were signed and sealed.”

As well as the Barons Quay update, attendees were also given a talk by Chief Insp Simon Meegan, who heads up the Northwich Local Policing Unit.

Mr Steggel said the meeting was a ‘positive’ one.

He said: “There was a good mixture of people from all walks of life, from business people, to retailers, councillors, solicitors to local professionals.”

Guests were also treated to lunch, which was provided by Mid Cheshire Catering.
