A SUSPECT remains in police custody following a serious assault on Leicester Street last night.
Police descended on the area in Whitecross at around 11.40pm yesterday, Monday, following reports of an attack.
Enquiries are ongoing into the assault after the victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Police say their condition is not believed to life-threatening.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of assault at the scene and was taken into custody to be questioned.
Neighbours have reported hearing loud noises and shouting in the moments leading up to the incident.
Chief inspector Pete Shaw said: "These type of serious assaults are mercifully not common in Warrington.
"We are treating this incident as a priority and I want to reassure the public that we are taking this matter seriously.
"Investigations are ongoing."
