A TOWN centre pub is the latest drinking venue to be praised by Cheshire Police as part of an initiative to tackle booze-fuelled anti-social behaviour and crime in Warrington.

The Feathers pub on Bridge Street has been presented with an ArcAngel Certificate for its work to encourage responsible drinking and helping to reduce the number of incidents linked to alcohol.

Chief Inspector Pete Shaw said: “The Feathers pub has undergone impressive refurbishment and is a great example of a well-run and safe establishment.

"Denis Cleary should be congratulated on the professional and responsible manner in which the Feathers is managed and it is a real pleasure to award him with the ArcAngel certificate.

"The safety of our licensed premises is of paramount importance and this is a good example of a premises taking responsibility for their visitors."

ArcAngel was launched in 2009 and it is a joint approach to tackling alcohol-related crime between Cheshire Police and a range of other agencies including councils across Cheshire, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and NHS trusts.

Pubs, clubs and off licences who sign up to the scheme agreed to work with the authorities to stamp out underage and binge drinking to make sure punters remember their night for the right reasons.

It also aims to raise public awareness of the issues of alcohol-related violence and disorder and the potential penalties that offenders face if they commit these types of offences.

A number of drinking spots in Warrington and across Cheshire have previously been granted the ArcAngel certificate including Dead Eyes on Bridge Street, the Postern Gate on St Austin’s Lane, the Barley Mow in the Old Market Place and the Blue Bell on Horsemarket Street in November 2015.

The pubs were the first in the town centre to receive Cheshire Police’s ArcAngel accreditation, which highlights that they have taken measures to ensure public safety and combat excessive drinking.

In recent months, Cheshire Police have stepped up their efforts to target those who flout the law in the town centre with a number of bars and clubs shut down over fears surrounding drug and alcohol crime.

The ArcAngel award aims to celebrate those who are working with the police to fight this type of crime.
