SCHOOLGIRL Beau Dermott wowed the audience with her performance tonight on the Britain's Got Talent final.

But it wasn't enough to take the title.

She finished fifth tonight while magician Richard Jones was crowned the winner after his patriotic performance.

Widnes 12-year-old  Beau, who is a member of StagePro Academy in Warrington town centre, sang Defying Gravity from musical Wicked after winning the public vote during Wednesday's semi final.

Judge Amanda Holden, who pressed her golden buzzer for Beau during her first audition, said: "I'm so proud of you and I'm desperate for people to pick up the phone so you can go straight down the yellow brick road to the Royal Variety show."

Simon Cowell added: "Moments like this can make you or break you and this just made you - congratulations."

In an exclusive interview yesterday, proud dad Ian said: "The whole thing has been fantastic.

“We came for a day and stayed for a week. We’ve had to nip out and buy some clothes."

Beau and her family also wanted to thank everyone who voted for her.

“We have to thank the people of Widnes and the surrounding areas for voting for Beau,” added Ian.

“Your support is invaluable. One more time please if it is possible and who knows she could do it.

“We’ve watched Britain’s Got Talent for 10 years and now our little girl is taking part in the biggest talent competition in the universe.

“Wouldn’t it be something if she won it.”
