TEENS will be ‘prescribed’ books from Padgate Library to help combat mental health problems as part of a new service.

Livewire has launched a Shelf Help programme that aims to help provide teens aged 13-18 with support and advice on conditions including depression, anxiety and stress as well as coping with bullying and exams.

Health professionals including GPs and school nurses can refer young people to the booklist, with titles available free of charge on loan from the Insall Road library.

The programme is part of the national Reading Well scheme which has provide 500,000 people with self-help support since its launch in 2013.

Livewire has also launched an inter-generational support group at Padgate Library where young and old can discuss the pressures of their lives.
