A PHOTOGRAPHY tutor at Priestley College won a £10,000 prize for his pictures exploring the impact of the M62 motorway.

Kevin Crooks, from St Helens, won the prize from Deutsche Bank for Art and Photography at the Creative Enterprise awards in London.

The award was presented by previous winner, Diana Matar, whose photography has since been on display at major international events.

Kevin said: “Receiving the prize from Diana really brought home to me what this meant and what I can hopefully achieve in future.

“I couldn’t believe it when I won, I started this project two years ago while I was studying a Masters so to receive this boost means a huge amount to me.”

Kevin’s photographs look at the M62 and how it has changed the environment and the people around it.

The judging panel included the chief executives of the Saatchi Gallery and Sadler’s Wells Theatre, filmmaker Chris Paul Daniels, and representatives from Deutsche Bank.

As part of the prize, Kevin will receive a year of mentoring from one of the bank’s executives and an intensive small business course.

Priestley Principal Matthew Grant said: “Kevin’s students and colleagues will undoubtedly benefit enormously from his experiences and expertise as a result of this award and his Masters Degree.

“The whole college is extremely proud of his achievements.”
