AN animal charity is appealing to would-be cat owners to give a loving indoor-only home to a cat with the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus.

Warrington Cat's Protection Centre in Padgate has been looking after Wazowski, who has FIV - a virus in cats that is similar to the human virus HIV however FIV does not infect humans.

Staff say FIV-positive cats and kittens can make fabulous indoor pets and the centre is keen to point out that they have plenty to offer to a new owner.

“FIV-positive cats can make fabulous companions as they remain indoors close to their owner and are particularly suited to flats and houses without gardens,” said manager Sonia Scowcroft.

“FIV-positive cats can lead normal lives and remain healthy for many years.

“Keeping FIV positive cats indoors, which also reduces their risk of spreading infection to other cats, lowers their chance of succumbing to other infectious diseases, to which they may be more susceptible.

"As medical advances are made, FIV-positive cats can now have longer lifespans than previously expected.”

Wazowski was brought into Warrington Adoption Centre after living outside for what appears to be a considerable length of time.

His body displayed signs of chemical burns on his face and ears and he required immediate medical attention.

After weeks of treatment he is now ready to find his new loving home and is described by staff as a 'handsome and affectionate' cat who would 'happily sit and chat to his new owner'.

Anyone who can offer Wazowski a home should call 03000 120612.
