RANGERS are checking all playgrounds managed by Warrington Borough Council after needles were found 'deliberately' planted at Oakwood Park on Saturday.

The incident sparked outrage after a mother and daughter needed hospital treatment after coming into contact with the needles.

Cllr Tony Higgins, executive board member for culture, leisure and community, said: “We are appalled by this awful incident at Oakwood Park and hope the little girl and her mum make a speedy recovery.

“A member of staff from Warrington Council’s Ranger Service attended the scene on Sunday afternoon and inspected the area. He also checked neighbouring play areas.

“Our teams started going out on Monday to all 108 playgrounds managed by Warrington Borough Council and is inspecting them to ensure they haven’t been tampered with.

“We would, however, urge parents to remain vigilant and ask their children to do the same.”

Council bosses say all playgrounds will have been inspected by the end of the week.
