THE TOWN Hall will be lit up in purple, blue and green on Thursday night inspired by a woman who has battled a chronic health condition for nearly all her life.

Howley resident Beth Urmston has fibromyalgia, a condition that causes her constant pain and chronic fatigue.

The 58-year-old has battled fibromyalgia for most of her life but was forced to give up work in 2009 after 35 years of employment.

Founding an international awareness magazine in 2014, Beth’s efforts will be recognised on Thursday night as the Town Hall is lit up in purple, blue and green as part of International Fibromyalgia Awareness Day.

Alongside Flare Magazine and Awareness Group members Wendy Willis and Sarah Blackburn and her carer Shirley Torkington, Beth discussed her meeting with the Mayor of Warrington ahead of the day.

She said: “Too many patients are still being left to flounder on their own, looking for ways to manage their condition and retain their independence and a reasonable quality of life – that is why I started the magazine.

“We were overjoyed to be invited to meet the Mayor to talk about the work of the magazine and awareness group and our aspirations for the future.”

The Mayor of Warrington Geoff Settle highlighted the extent of Beth’s condition.

He said: “Although Beth is in constant pain and also suffers with chronic fatigue, at times unable to life her head from the pillow or raise her arms, she is determined to raise awareness of fibromyalgia, myalgic encephalomyelitis and chronic fatigue.

“Just coming to visit me took a great deal of effort.”

Beth has plans to form a Warrington support group for people living with the three conditions – for more information call 480899 or visit flaremag.uk.
