A 32-year-old man was rushed to hospital with a broken ankle after thugs repeatedly stamped on his leg in an 'unprovoked attack' in a town centre nightclub.

Police were called to 53 Degrees on Bridge Street at 1.20am on Sunday after a punter needed urgent medical treatment following an assault in the toilets of the drinking establishment.

Officers described the attack as unprovoked, adding that the victim was assaulted by a group of men who repeatedly punched him in the face before stamping on his leg.

Two men were later arrested on suspicion of GBH and have since been charged with the offence.

Both suspects appeared at magistrates' court earlier this week where the case was referred to the crown court due to the serious nature of the offence.

Enquiries are ongoing to trace a third man who is wanted by police in connection with the incident.

Anyone with information has been urged to call Cheshire Police on 101 citing incident number 73 of May 2 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
