MORE than £1,165 has been donated towards a memorial plaque for Viola Beach and their manager Craig Tarry following an 'absolutely amazing' response from the town.

A memorial night took place at Penketh and Sankey Conservative Club, on Meeting Lane, last Saturday.

The night of music was organised by best friends Megan Pugh, 16, Lucy Finnerty, 17, and Chantelle Wightman, 18, to help keep the band and Craig's legacy alive following their tragic deaths in a car crash in Sweden on February 13.

Around 200 people attended the event, much to the delight of Megan.

She said: "A massive thank you to everyone who came down to support – it's so greatly appreciated.

"A special thanks to the staff at the club for the kind donation of giving us the venue for free and the constant advertising, to the families of the band who came down to show their support and sold merchandise and to all of the bands who gave up their time to perform for free.

"It was absolutely amazing to see what can happen when everyone comes together.

"I know I have very much overused the phrase but I do really mean it, thank you."
