A TOWN centre reveller has warned punters to be vigilant after he was hospitalised hours after his drink was spiked.

The man, who has asked not to be named, contacted the Warrington Guardian following the unnerving experience earlier this month.

He said: “I was out in Warrington on Saturday night, and although I was drinking, I wasn’t drinking particularly heavily.

“I have no memories for around three hours of the night, which is very unusual for me, especially as I wasn’t drinking that heavily.

“People I was with told me that I was very repetitive, and seemed not to be acting like myself. I then remember waking up at home, and became extremely angry and anxious, which is totally out of character for me.

“I couldn’t stop running and was unsure about what was real and what I was imagining.

“I was taken to hospital in an ambulance and treated by a doctor, who confirmed that someone had put something in my drink, although they were unsure what it was.”

Looking back, the man from Great Sankey can remember leaving his drink unattended when he went outside for a cigarette.

He added: “Luckily I was with a large group of friends, but if I’d wandered off on my own then anything could have happened to me.

“People need to be very careful about leaving their drinks unattended, and look after friends if they’re acting strangely.”

Sergeant Rob Horton has urged anyone who believes they have been targeted to come forward as soon as possible to ensure an investigation can be launched.

But he dismissed claims that this was a major problem in the town, adding that there have only been ‘a handful’ of spiking incidents in Warrington in the past 12 months.

He added: “It is rare this happens in the town but we accept that it can happen.

“People should not leave their drinks unattended.”
