A PROPOSAL to turn a bookmakers into two takeaways and a flat has been thrown out by the council.

Plans had been submitted to concert the branch of Betfred on Long Lane in to two takeaways have been rejected by Warrington Borough Council due to concerns over the proposed opening hours and effect on nearby residents.

If approved, the development would have also seen the existing four-bedroom flat and one-bedroom flat at 135-139 Long Lane converted into two one-bedroom flats and one two-bedroom flats.

Applicant Mrs Wendy Davies, a Long Lane resident, said the proposal would have created six jobs but the plan was turned down.

The two takeaways had mooted opening hours of 7.30am-11.30pm from Monday to Saturday and 8.30am-10.30pm on Sundays and bank holidays.

Vicky Simcott, principal officer of environmental protection at Warrington Borough Council, said: “It is considered that the intended proposal is not an ideal location for a hot food takeaway given the proximity to residential properties.

“Information provided is lacking, particularly in relation to the type of cuisine and plant and equipment proposed and what the possible impacts are on residential amenity.

“The proposed opening hours of the hot food takeaway are extensive and are more likely to cause detriment to the local area with such early and late opening hours.”
