TRIBUTES have been paid to a man who died after taking part in a half-marathon on his 31st birthday at the weekend.

Alan Lumley was celebrating his 31st birthday by taking part in Sunday’s Wilmslow Half Marathon when he collapsed one mile away from the finish line.

The talented solicitor was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital but sadly later died.

The parents of Mr Lumley, who was born in Warrington and was an avid Warrington Wolves supporter, released a statement paying tribute to the ‘kindest and most-loving son’.

They said: “Alan was the kindest and most-loving son, brother and boyfriend that anyone could ever wish for.

“He was loyal, thoughtful and was liked and admired by everyone he met.

“Our lives have been shattered by the tragic loss of Alan on his 31st birthday during the half marathon.

“Alan was an excellent sportsman – playing rugby league and union throughout school both at county and schoolboy level.

“In recent years Alan was a keen runner and had previously completed 10 half marathons and 10k races.”

Mr Lumley’s parents said running was a passion he shared with his girlfriend of eight years Nicky Harris, alongside golf and Liverpool FC.

He was set to be an usher at his sister’s wedding and was recently shortlisted for two young lawyer of the year awards.

The statement added: “Due to his sharp intellect and captivating personality he had established a successful career which showed great promise.

“He had been renovating his first home in Cheadle Hulme with Nicky and was looking forward to being an usher at sister Julia’s wedding in eight weeks’ time.

“His memory will live on through us as we will celebrate his life the way he lived his – doing the things he loved with the people he loved.”
