Report didn’t back plans

FURTHER to the article regarding comments made in the Regional Spacial Strategy Report about a modal rail freight interchange at Newton-le-Willows, you should have made it clear that the authors of the report DID NOT endorse the planning application recently submitted by Astral Development Ltd.

The RSS report recommended that the site, along with two others, was suitable for a rail freight interchange but not for other forms of development including large scale storage and distribution uses'. They therefore, totally rejected Astral's plans for warehouses, distribution centres and a waste recycling plant etc, on this site.

The report also refers only to the land at Parkside Colliery' which comprises just one-eighth of the total of the green belt land Astral wish to destroy, and makes no mention of the remainder.

As to the fact that this was an extensive public consultation exercise, I would ask the residents of Newton-le-Willows: did anyone consult you and were you aware a consultation exercise' was under way?
