RESIDENTS are being urged to stub out their cigarettes on next week for No Smoking Day.

The British Heart Foundation’s No Smoking Day takes place on Wednesday March 9 and the 15 per cent of Warrington residents who are current smokers are being urged to kick the habit.

Paul Roberto, senior Livewire advisor for smoking, said: “We understand that the majority of smokers want to stop smoking but many find the task too daunting.

“No Smoking Day is the perfect opportunity to inspire smokers in Warrington to quit for good.

“With support smokers are four times more likely to succeed in their quit attempt – that is why Livewire will be out in force on No Smoking Day, educating smokers on the range of local services and resources available to them.”

Statistics show that two thirds of smokers want to quit, and the annual campaign encourages them to make an attempt.

Dr Mike Knapton, associate medical director at the British Heart Foundation, said: “Giving up smoking is the single best thing you can do for your health and that’s why the British Heart Foundation runs No Smoking Day.

“We’re encouraging smokers to mark Wednesday March 9 in their calendars and take the first step towards a smoke-free life.”
