A ‘BEAUTIFUL old boat’ has been brought back to life with the help of a Warrington company.

The Daniel Adamson, a 100ft long tug boat that was converted into an art deco ‘party boat’, was set to be broken up before enthusiasts managed to save it from the scrapheap.

A huge restoration project by the Daniel Adamson Preservation Society has been ongoing for the last 12 years and Latchford company Jacob Interiors has remade the furniture of the historic boat, which was originally launched in 1903.

Andy Ward, director of the Causeway Avenue-based company, said: “It’s a beautiful old boat and an interesting piece of local history.

“Daniel Adamson was the man who owned the Manchester Ship Canal and he had the boat refurbished as a party boat with lovely art deco interiors.

“Over time it fell into disrepair and was left abandoned with vandals getting in to it and it was on its way to be scrapped.

“But the preservation group had betters thoughts and managed to buy it and have restored it over the last 12 years.”

The company has been a part of the project for the last three years, and Chester Road resident Andy says the job was Jacob Interior’s hardest yet.

He added: “It’s been our biggest job so far – it’s been a big challenge for us as it’s all been handmade to the exact specification and the fabric has been replicated to a remarkable similarity.

“We had a sample of a table and one of the original armchairs but we weren’t allowed to go near it and had to do it from photographs.”

The Daniel Adamson is scheduled to relaunch at the end of March and will be a fully-operational venue for events and weddings and a hub for the education of youngsters.
