A BURTONWOOD couple who are also members of Warrington Running Club ran 48.6 miles at Disney World, Florida, for charity in January.

Paul Corless, 30, and Cheryl Robinson, 27, travelled to Florida for the ‘Dopey Challenge’, which involved running a 5k, a 10k, a half-marathon and a full marathon on four consecutive days.

“The hardest thing about it was getting up at 3am every morning because the races started at half past five,” said Paul, who is a healthy lifestyle advisor at lifestyle services providers LiveWire.

Paul also had a surprise meeting with running legend, former world champion Paula Radcliffe during the race.

“I had my Warrington running vest on and she shouted behind me, ‘I’m catching you Warrington!’”

He said they ran for four miles together but it was a struggle to keep up with the now retired marathon world record holder.

“It was great to meet her, she was really nice to speak to, she was there chatting away,” he said.

This was Cheryl’s first marathon and the couple had to make a lot of sacrifices over Christmas because they were training for the events.

“She loves Disney, I just like running.

"Disney go over the top with everything – they have a character every mile, it keeps you going,” said Paul.

“Cheryl really enjoyed it – she won’t do another marathon unless it’s Disney now.”

Paul and Cheryl have raised £650 for the Warrington Wolves Charitable Foundation, a charity that Paul said has helped him out in the past.

After their challenge the pair enjoyed a well-earned holiday riding the rollercoasters at Disney World.
