A BEWSEY carer who won the top prize in Warrington Disability Partnership’s Christmas raffle has described her new tumble dryer as a ‘godsend’.

Val Caldwell was forced to give up her job four years ago to become a full-time carer for her mum 93-year-old mum Vera, who has Alzheimer’s Disease.

Now she has won the top prize in WDP’s Christmas raffle, a tumble dryer – it is the first time Val has owned one.

She said: “Over the past 15 years I’ve cared for mum I have used everything from the banister to the balcony to hang out our washing to dry.

“Having a tumble dryer will be a godsend for both of us – I am absolutely over the moon.

“I buy tonnes of Christmas raffle tickets from the charity every year because I like and respect what they do for disabled people.

Val used to work for the charity before she became a carer.

She added: “You only need to pop down to the Centre of Independent Living on Beaufort Street for help or advice and they are so friendly and accepting of everyone.

“I never dreamt I’d win – for me this is life-changing and I cannot thank WDP enough.”
