OFSTED inspectors have judged Locking Stumps Pre-School as ‘inadequate’ after raising concerns that children’s safety is not assured by the centre.

The Glover Road pre-school, which provides childcare for 16 children between the ages of two and four, was told that children's welfare is at risk due to staff's lack of understanding of when to take action.

Inspector Lauren Grocott said: “Staff are aware of potential signs and symptoms of abuse.

"However, they do not understand when it is appropriate to report their concerns.

“Staff miss some opportunities to promote children's ability to solve problems and develop their thinking skills.”

However she praised carers for promoting children's imaginative play and their understanding of the world around them.

The team is suitably qualified and experienced, with children reportedly enjoying their time at the pre-school.

The report also said that the manager and deputy manager have been recently appointed and have drawn up a plan to address issues that they have identified in the service.
