ELDERLY residents are being invited to offer a helping hand at an Orford Lane store in a move tipped to reduce isolation.

The Cake & Party Shop, which caters for a range of events including weddings, has experienced an increased demand for services since the turn of the year.

Owner Laura Linley, from Woolston, is expecting the business to continue thriving but is hopeful of getting extra support, while 'cutting the risk of isolation' at the same time.

"I think it is something which can help both me and an elderly resident out," said the 27-year-old.

"Ideally, it will be somebody who does not need to be trained and can bake.

"I came up with the idea because my grandma taught me to bake things and it is a popular pastime for many people who may miss baking.

"It will be nice for me as well because most of the time it is just me in the shop and they may be able to teach me a thing or two.

"It has been a lot busier since January – I am finding it hard to keep up with the baking side of things."
